Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the Unframed app and website. By creating an account or joining an album, you agree to them.

This document is also available in the languages listed above. Where the law allows, this English version governs if a translation differs from it. The French version is provided for users in Quebec under the Charter of the French language.

1. The service

Unframed is operated by 14923626 Canada Inc., a corporation incorporated under the laws of Canada ("Unframed", "we", "us"). These terms are an agreement between you and that company.

Unframed lets a group of friends capture photos and short videos from any get-together — a trip, a wedding, a birthday, a random Tuesday — into one shared album, optionally sealed until a reveal moment chosen by the album's admin. Joining an album is always free; an album holds at most 80 people. A free account can host 2 albums in total, each holding up to 250 photos, 5 videos, 8 people adding media and 2GB — hard limits, not a soft target — and free albums include a one-time allowance of AI face matching, a set number of photos that we may adjust over time (an album is free while no upgrade or subscription pays for it). Paid matching runs on upgraded albums and on albums covered by an Unframed Plus or Max subscription, and it is bounded as well: an album upgrade gives that album a one-off allowance that includes any photos it already had matched, while an album covered by Unframed Plus or Max matches from its subscriber's monthly allowance instead, shared across every album they cover and refreshed each month. Running out of face matching never stops photos or videos from being added. The paid options — Unframed Plus, Unframed Max, and Upgrade this album — and exactly what each one includes are shown in the app before you buy.

2. Your account

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). You're responsible for activity on your account. Keep your sign-in method secure, and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account) or on this website, signed in from a computer.

3. Your content

You own the photos and videos you upload. You grant us a limited license to host, process, resize, and deliver them — solely to operate the service for you and your group (including generating thumbnails and, where enabled, running the opt-in person filter). This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for the rolling backup window described in the Privacy Policy.

Only upload content you have the right to share. Be mindful that everyone in the album can view and download it — get your friends' okay, like you would before posting a group photo anywhere. You can delete any photo or video you added at any time, including while the album is sealed (under Your uploads).

Leaving an album. When you leave an album, the photos and videos you added to it are permanently deleted from it, for everyone, together with the face-match tags that mark you in its other photos. Your comments and reactions stay. Before you leave, the app tells you how many photos and videos this deletes and lets you save them first. While the album is still sealed, not every version of the phone apps can save them; this website, signed in from a computer, always can. If you were the album's last admin, its longest-standing remaining member becomes an admin; if you were its last member, leaving deletes the whole album. If an admin removes you, the photos and videos you added stay in the album unless that admin also chooses to delete them.

4. Acceptable use

Don't use Unframed to upload or share content that is illegal, infringing, sexually exploitative, harassing, or that depicts people who have asked not to be included. Don't attempt to access other albums' media, probe or overload the service, or resell it.

Everyone in an album can report media. An album's admins can remove members, and can delete any photo or video in the album, whoever added it. We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these terms.

5. Purchases

Joining an album is always free — nothing below is ever required to take part in someone else's album, and no purchase raises the 80-person limit on an album.

Subscriptions. Unframed Plus and Unframed Max are auto-renewing subscriptions with monthly and annual billing. Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) bills you, depending on where you subscribed. Cancel in that store's subscription settings; paid access continues until the end of the billing period. Annual billing offers a price saving, with the same plan allowances. If a renewal fails, access may continue during a billing grace period. The 30-day retention window in section 6 starts when paid access and any billing grace have ended.

What a subscription applies to. A subscription is not itself an album upgrade. Albums you create while subscribed are covered automatically; an album that already exists is covered when a subscribed member of it chooses to cover it, which any subscribed member can do. An album has one covering subscriber at a time, and covering does not stack — two subscribers in one album do not double its limits. The larger limits a cover grants stay on the album for the rest of its upload window, subject to the free-plan reduction after a subscription ends (section 6).

One-time purchases. Upgrade this album is a one-time purchase for a single album and everyone in it; any member can buy it. The first purchase permanently upgrades that album. It can be bought again for the same album, up to the per-album limit the app shows before purchase (currently 10 upgrades), including an album that is already upgraded or is covered by an Unframed Plus or Max subscription: each further purchase adds another block of capacity and face matching (the number of people who can add media stops at the album's 80-person limit). On a covered album, each upgrade adds to the subscription's album limits; the subscription's share lasts while the cover does (section 6), and the upgrades' share is permanent. The app shows the price and allowances before purchase. These upgrades do not expire when a subscription ends. Previously purchased permanent album upgrades and paid originals access remain honored.

Refunds. Every purchase is processed by the store you bought it from — Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) — so refunds are requested from and granted by that store under its policies. When the store tells us a purchase was refunded, we revoke what that purchase granted. A refunded subscription period ends immediately. A refunded album upgrade removes its entitlement or extra capacity; the album then follows its remaining purchases, cover and applicable free-tier retention rules in section 6.

6. Album lifespan, storage & full-quality originals

Every album has a reveal date, and it can be set up to 10 years after the album is created. An album that is upgraded, or covered by an Unframed Plus or Max subscription, keeps accepting new photos and videos for as long as it stays upgraded or covered, before and after its reveal, unless an admin of the album sets an end date or stops new uploads; an admin can change either at any time. On the free plan, a sealed album accepts new photos and videos until 14 days after its reveal or 365 days after it was created, whichever comes first, and an album without a seal accepts them until 14 days after the 90-day mark from its creation (104 days in all). When an album stops accepting new photos and videos, nothing else changes: members can still browse, watch, comment on, download, and delete what is already in the album. Upgrading the album, or covering it with a subscription, opens it to new photos and videos again, unless an admin has stopped new uploads or set an end date that has passed (an admin can do either on any album, free ones included); when a cover ends, an album that is not upgraded goes back to the free plan's limits. If an admin seals a free album again with a new reveal date, it accepts new photos and videos again until 14 days after the new reveal or 365 days after it was created, whichever comes first; no free album accepts them more than 365 days after it was created.

After a subscription ends. You have at least 30 days after paid access and any billing grace end to renew, upgrade an album or download what you want to keep. Nothing is deleted under this rule during those 30 days. Afterwards, albums and media beyond the free plan limits are permanently deleted. Of the albums you host, we keep the two most recently active eligible free albums and delete the rest, including their contents. In the albums we keep, media over the free photo, video or storage limits is removed newest first, retaining the earliest uploads that fit. An album your subscription covered for another host may be trimmed to the free limits, but is not deleted under your hosting limit. Albums you only joined are unaffected by your subscription ending. Permanent album upgrades, earlier paid originals unlocks and albums covered by another member's active subscription are protected.

An album that is still sealed when those 30 days begin is held: nothing in it is deleted under this rule until 30 days after its reveal, and at its reveal it counts as an album that has just been active. Before its deadline, an album is protected by a renewal, by an upgrade, or by a member covering it with their own subscription. Profile → Usage shows the deadlines and the affected albums.

Who we tell. We send cancellation and retention notices by email and push when data would be removed: to you, and to every member of each album that would be deleted or trimmed, who also see a notice on the album in the app. A member's notice names the album, its host and the date, says that the album is no longer covered by a plan and what will be removed, and explains how to keep it: save it, upgrade it, or cover it with their own Unframed Plus or Max. It does not say whose plan it was or why it ended. The first notice goes out when those 30 days begin — for a store subscription that was set to renew, up to two days later, once the store has had time to report a renewal, and the deadline is then at least 30 days after that notice — and more follow roughly a week and a day before the deadline. Members of a held album are first told at its reveal. If an album is saved by a renewal, an upgrade or a cover, we tell the people we warned. These notices are about your data, so they are sent even if you have turned other notifications off.

What a free album loses is its full-quality originals. Thirty days after an album's reveal date, the original files uploaded to it are permanently removed unless the album has been upgraded — by a one-time album upgrade — or is covered by a member whose Unframed Plus or Max subscription is active. This separate originals-only cleanup preserves media that fits the retention rules above; what goes is the full-resolution copy behind each item. We send reminder notifications roughly a week and a day beforehand to members who have notifications for that album turned on, but the date is the date: upgrade the album, or save it to your device, before it arrives. Upgrading at any moment before the removal runs keeps that album's originals for as long as we operate the service.

A cover is the one form of keeping that can end. While the covering member's subscription is active (including its 30-day grace period) the album's originals are not on that clock at all; if the subscription ends and nobody else in the group covers it, the album returns to the free-tier schedule above: its originals are removed 30 days after the reveal or 30 days after the cover ended, whichever is later, with the same reminders roughly a week and a day beforehand.

Download quality. Saving an album gives you standard-quality copies on every plan, free and upgraded alike: photos up to 2,048 pixels on the long edge, and videos as a 720p copy (we serve the file as uploaded when we have not made that copy). Upgrading an album does not change what a download contains — what it changes is that we keep the full-quality original files you uploaded, stored for that album, instead of removing them on the schedule above. Browsing, watching and saving standard-quality copies never count against any download allowance.

If Unframed ever shuts down. A reveal can be set years ahead, and albums and upgrades are kept for as long as we operate the service, but we cannot promise the service will run for any particular length of time. If we ever discontinue it, we will give at least 90 days' notice, by email and in the app, before anything is deleted, together with a way to download your albums. An album's admins can reveal a sealed album early at any time, so its members can save it before then.

7. Disclaimers & liability

The service is provided "as is". Keep your own copies of irreplaceable photos — one-tap album save exists for exactly this. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for Unframed in the 12 months before the claim.

8. Termination & changes

You can stop using Unframed and delete your account at any time. We may update these terms; for material changes we'll notify you in the app before they take effect. Continued use after changes means you accept them.

9. Contact & governing law

Questions: support@scientsolutions.ca. These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and you and 14923626 Canada Inc. submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Province of Ontario.

Nothing in these terms removes any right you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived by agreement — including, in Ontario, under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002. Where a term here conflicts with such a right, that right prevails and the rest of these terms stay in effect.
